Summer Camps (Delves Lane + Langley Park)

What a brilliant start to the summer holidays! From the 25th - 27th July, we ran our first week of Creative Kitchen Holiday Camps at Delves Lane Primary School and Langley Park Primary School, and each day was packed with energy, hands-on cooking fun, excitement, and plenty of memorable moments.

It was lovely to see children from different schools and communities coming together. Some already knew each other, some didn’t, but by the end of each day, there were new friendships forming everywhere you looked.

Day One: Roald Dahl Day

ree

We kicked off the week with a Roald Dahl-inspired day. The children made Snozzcumbers, stuffed with colourful veggies, definitely more delicious than the BFG’s version! We also baked Bruce Bogtrotter’s chocolate cake, which, as you can imagine, was a big hit. Crafting-wise, we got stuck into making dream catchers, and spent time coming up with our own revolting recipe, think worm spaghetti and spider soup! There was so much imagination!

Day Two: Noodle Head & Friendship Day

This day focused on the theme of friendship, inspired by the book Noodle Head. The crafts were really thoughtful, friendship flowers, handmade bracelets, and friendship fortune tellers filled with kind messages to share with friends. Sweet and sticky noodles were on the menu for lunch, with lots of snipping and chopping practice along the way! We also got messy and had a go at making our own chocolate truffles. Judging by the chocolate-covered faces, they were very well received and definitely one of the highlights of the day. I wonder how many of their grown ups managed to sneak a taste!

Day Three: Colour Monster Day

Our final day of the week was inspired by The Colour Monster, a story all about feelings. For lunch, we made pizza faces using a mix of toppings, and we ended the day by baking and decorating emoji cookies, which were just as expressive as the kids themselves.

As always, there were lots of outdoor games between sessions. Whether they were working together in teams or just burning off some energy, the children threw themselves into it.

We’re back this week for more holiday camp fun, this time at The Grove Primary School on the 5th, 6th, and 7th August. The days will be packed with more creative cooking, hands-on crafts, and plenty of outdoor fun.

Funded HAF places (for those eligible for free school meals) are available via the Fun and Food portal, and paid places can be booked directly on our website. If you’re local and looking for something fun and creative for your child to get involved in we’d love to see you there!
